Art was born in Chicago, Illinois March 10, 1947. He moved to Corcoran when he was 12 years-old. He attended Corcoran schools and was a 1966 graduate of Corcoran High. He served two years in the Army and 13 years with the Army National Guard.
Art was a founder and advocate of the Veteran’s Outreach in Corcoran. He was a Past Adjutant of the American Legion Post #144. He was also the founder of Veteran’s Saluting Veterans which held an annual banquet on Veteran’s Day. Art spent countless hours helping Veterans and community members who sought his help. He could always be seen driving his white Silverado with the Veteran’s Outreach emblem on the door.
When Art wasn’t out advocating on behalf of Veterans he could be found in his spare time fishing and cooking. He fried the best fish ever.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Nolen; brothers, Eddie (Michelle) Nolen, Larry (Carla) Nolen and Robert Nolen; sisters, Diane (Brad) Ketchens, Dewana (Chris) Butler and Alberta Nolen; sons, Shawn Nolen, Eric (Courtney) Nolen, Curtis (Darvetta) Hawkins Sr., Lionel Todd (Elida) Hawkins; daughters, Monique Nolen (Jermaine), Latoya Nolen (Russell), Latrice (Johnny) Fisher; 25 grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel L. Nolen Sr. and Lizzie Mae Dunn-Nolen, his brother, Sammy Nolen; and sister, Loydena Nolen-Oliver.
A viewing was held at the Jesse E. Cooley Jr. Funeral Service in Fresno. The First United Methodist Church is located on the corner of Whitley and Letts Avenues. Following services, interment was at Corcoran District Cemetery.
